2011 Miracles Gala Recap
Thank you for helping us to raise $252,000!
On October 22, more than 300 members of the Jacksonville community came together to the Sawgrass Marriott to help 'fund' a cure for type 1 diabetes at the 11th annual JDRF Miracles Gala themed "Going for Gold." The event surpassed all fundraising goals and raised $252,000 for diabetes research!
Celebrity Honoree, Shannon Miller, the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history, accepted an award and spoke about her personal connection to diabetes. Shannon's experience of having gestational diabetes, although temporary, allowed her to understand what children with type 1 diabetes go through every single day.
Vistakon served as this year's Corporate Honoree. In the company's honor, a tribute video was shown, highlighting employees who have a direct connection to the disease. Karin Grantham, a grandmother of two girls living with type 1 diabetes, and Vice President of Worldwide Human Resources for Vistakon, accepted an award on behalf of the company.
After the dinner, program, live auction and Fund A Cure, Brooks Biagini, Executive Director of JDRF North Florida, stepped up on stage and thanked the many people who contributed to the success of the night. "Thank you first of all for joining us this evening and secondly for giving so generously. We know it's tough to live right now but through your selflessness you are helping others and we are sincerely grateful and moved. Your help is what will lead us to have a cure for diabetes one day."
